Perpetual futures · Automation guideFutures & Perpetual Trading Bot: How to Automate Perpetual Futures Non-Custodially
A futures trading bot — more precisely a perpetual trading bot — automates buying and selling of perpetual futures (perps) around the clock, applying your strategy with leverage, sizing and stops while you sleep. OX-ENGINE does this non-custodial: on a DEX, the bot can trade your account but can never withdraw your funds. This guide explains what a perps bot does, why non-custodial matters, and how OX-ENGINE automates it.
OX-ENGINE runs perpetual-futures automation live on Aster DEX today. Hyperliquid perps are in testnet validation (not live), and PancakeSwap perps are planned. No bot guarantees profit — perpetual futures with leverage carry substantial risk.
What is a futures / perpetual trading bot?
A futures trading bot is software that opens and closes futures positions automatically according to rules you configure — entries, position size, leverage and protective stops — without you clicking every order. Because the most-traded crypto futures are perpetual futures (contracts with no expiry), a crypto futures bot is in practice a perpetual trading bot: a "perps bot".
Instead of watching charts all day, you define a strategy once and the bot executes it 24/7. It reacts to signals the moment they fire, sizes each position by your rules, sets leverage, and pre-places protective stops — the repetitive, discipline-heavy work that humans do badly at 3 a.m. A bot doesn't get tired, greedy or scared; it just follows the plan you gave it.
Perpetual futures in 60 seconds (leverage & funding)
A perpetual future is a derivative that tracks an asset's price but never expires, so you can hold a long or short position indefinitely. Two mechanics matter for any perpetual trading bot:
- Leverage — you post margin and control a larger position. Leverage amplifies both gains and losses, and a move against you can trigger liquidation. A good perps bot treats leverage as a risk dial, not a profit multiplier.
- Funding — perpetuals use a periodic funding payment between longs and shorts to keep the contract price near spot. Holding a position through funding either costs or pays you a small amount, so an always-on bot should be aware it exists.
These are exactly the moving parts that make manual perps trading exhausting — and exactly what a futures trading bot is built to handle consistently.
Why non-custodial matters on a DEX
OX-ENGINE is non-custodial. You delegate a trade-only signer that can place and manage perpetual-futures orders — but withdrawals are disabled for the bot. Only you, the account owner, can move funds out. You keep your keys.
On a centralized exchange, a bot usually needs API keys to your account, and you trust the platform to hold your money. On a DEX, the model is cleaner: you authorize a signer scoped to trading only, so the worst case is bounded — the bot can open, close and protect positions, but it can never drain your wallet. That's the whole point of non-custodial automation, and it's covered in depth in our pillar guide on non-custodial automated trading.
OX-ENGINE's perpetual trading bot toolkit
OX-ENGINE is a toolkit for automating perpetual futures, not a black box. The core building blocks:
- Signal engine (entries)Choose how entries are generated: the Nadaraya-Watson Envelope indicator, a macro-driven bias, or your own TradingView webhook alerts. See all features.
- Money management (sizing & leverage)Position sizing by fixed USDT or percentage of balance, plus configurable leverage — the risk dial stays in your hands.
- Protective stopsA pre-placed cascade: classic stop-loss, multi-step break-even to lock gains, and a liquidation-shield buffer that acts before liquidation. Green = long, red = short — never recolored.
- Backtesting & missed-signalsReplay historical signals with simulated stop-loss and break-even to see how a strategy would have behaved before you risk capital.
- Macro filterAn aggregated market-wide bias (Fear & Greed, economic calendar, BTC trend, funding, open interest, DXY, S&P 500) can veto entries against the tide. Read trading with macro signals and how we cross-reference market data.
Everything runs from Telegram, and every venue is abstracted behind one engine — so the same strategy, sizing and stops apply wherever your perpetual futures live. New venues are tracked on the Updates / roadmap.
Which venues & futures you can automate
OX-ENGINE ships one venue at a time and validates the non-custodial setup end-to-end before release. Current status for perpetual-futures automation:
- Aster DEX — live. Perpetual-futures automation is running today via a trade-only signer wallet.
- Hyperliquid — testnet validation. The signer is validated and reads work; order execution is being validated on testnet, so it is not live yet.
- PancakeSwap — planned. On the roadmap, not released.
Which futures can you automate? The liquid perpetual futures markets each venue lists — BTC, ETH and other major USDT-margined perps. For a developer-facing look at each API, see our DEX API comparison: Aster vs Hyperliquid vs PancakeSwap.
The risks of leverage & perps (read this)
Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains. A sharp move against a leveraged position can be liquidated, and you can lose more, faster, than in spot trading. Funding can erode a held position. A bot enforces discipline — it does not remove market risk, and no automation guarantees a profit.
Automation makes a strategy consistent; it doesn't make a bad strategy good. Use conservative leverage, size positions you can afford to lose, keep protective stops on, and treat backtests as illustration, not a promise. This is not financial advice — only trade what you can afford to lose.
FAQ
Is a perpetual trading bot safe? The custody risk is what OX-ENGINE minimizes: the bot uses a trade-only signer and cannot withdraw your funds, so it can't run off with your money. Market risk, however, is real — leveraged perpetual futures can be liquidated, so the safety of any perps bot depends on your risk settings, not just its architecture.
Does the bot hold my funds? No. OX-ENGINE is non-custodial. Your funds stay in your own DEX account; you delegate a signer that can place and manage orders only. Withdrawals are disabled for the bot and remain owner-only. You keep your keys.
Which futures can I automate? The perpetual-futures markets on supported venues — Aster perps are live now; Hyperliquid perps are in testnet validation; PancakeSwap perps are planned. Typically the major USDT-margined perps (BTC, ETH and other liquid pairs each venue lists).
